Eternal Destination
A very unusual and unexpected thing happened in April. God had a plan and carried it out.
There was a phone call from a widow in our area who was concerned about a widowed woman who was terminally ill. She wanted Brett to talk to her about her eternal destiny she wanted her to know that she could know where she was going. God gave Brett an opportunity to talk with this dying woman. He shared with her about Jesus and how He died for her on the Cross, that He took on all of her sin so that she could stand before God clothed in righteousness in a white robe washed in the blood of Jesus, so that her sins would be forgiven and remembered no more. If only she would believe and accept Him. She professed to have done that a few weeks before. A few days later she passed away.
Revelation 19:8
Fine linen, bright and clean was given her to wear (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.)
A couple weeks after she died we received another phone call from her family wanting to know if we had any connections for help in burying someone. They had no money to bury her and did not know what to do or where to turn. Brett told them to consider cremation it would be less expensive. They shared that her wishes were to be buried, she did not want to be cremated. They had exhausted all avenues of help. Her body was still at the funeral home. They just wanted to lay their Mom to rest.
At first Brett didn’t really feel like this was something that Serving Hands Ministries would help with, he felt like it was out of the parameters of what this ministry does. He reacted with hesitation and uncertainty.
About one week went by and as we were sitting in church on a Sunday morning God put on my heart very heavily that we needed to help bury this widowed woman. So after church I shared this with Brett. God immediately softened Brett’s heart concerning this. God has a way of letting us know that His ways are so far above ours and that when He has something for us to do it may not look anything like we would expect. We discussed it with our Board and it was agreed that this was something we needed to act on.
At noon Monday April 16th we sent out an e-mail sharing her story and waited on God to work.
By 4:30 in the afternoon there were only a few responses and Brett was getting discouraged. As we talked about it we were reminded that God already had it taken care of and He would put it on whoever’s heart he chooses in his perfect timing.
At 6:30 that same evening while sitting around our table eating supper with our family a man sent by God came to our house, he shared about how his wife shared our e-mail with him about the widow, and the circumstances that led to God putting on his and his wife’s heart to help with the burial. God gave them a specific amount that he wrote the check for that day and when he gave it to us it was for the balance needed!! We all shed a few tears and this man and our family held hands as we prayed together around our table. Our hearts were full of thankfulness.
God had a plan and carried it out. This woman was laid to rest on that Thursday April 19th. |
